1932 WINTER OLYMPICS POST CARD FDC

The Santway Photo-Craft Company of Watertown, NY made a series of post cards with scenes from in and around Lake Placid, NY prior to the 1932 Winter Olympics. This is one of those cards franked with the 1932 2¢ Winter Olympics stamp (#716) and canceled in Lake Placid on the First Day of issue, January 25, 1932. (We have several different cards, so the picture may not match the one shown here).

SEA to SHINING SEA PLATE #1 FDC

This ArtCraft First Day Cover of the 18¢ "From Sea to Shining Sea" coil (#1891) is franked with a plate strip of 3 stamps with plate #1. The cover is very clean, unaddressed, and neatly canceled.

VATICAN CITY SEMIPOSTALS FDC

On April 3, 1933 Vatican City issued a set of 4 semi-postals (#B1-4) for the Holy Year marking the 1900th anniversary of the crucifixion. These are the only semi-postals (charity stamps) ever issued by Vatican Post. This First Day Cover is franked with the entire set of four and includes a cachet and registered mail sticker. The back flap has some tears in it and there is a horizontal fold about one inch from the bottom. This is a very rare cover.

1935 VATICAN JURIDICAL CONGRESS SET

This set of six stamps (#41-46) was issued by Vatican City in 1935 to commemorate the International Juridical Congress held in Rome the previous year. We offer the very fine mint set in premium never hinged condition.

1882 10¢ JEFFERSON MINT

This mint 10¢ Thomas Jefferson stamp (#209) issued in 1882 has a nice fresh appearance. The perforations just touch the design on the top and left and the stamp has a hinge remnant and marks.

1914 5¢ WASHINGTON COIL

This 5¢ blue Washington coil stamp (#447) from 1914 gauges perf 10 vertically. It is mint and hinged and has strong color and a sharp impression.

The 1935 Migratory Bird hunting stamp (#RW2) shows canvasbacks taking to flight. This stamp is offered in F-VF mint never hinged condition.

1933 KOSCIUSZKO PLATE BLOCK

This plate block of six of the 5¢ Kosciuszko stamp (#734) from 1933 is centered fine to very fine and is never hinged. Four perfs in the selvage to the right of the plate number have separated, but otherwise this is a very nice plate block.

13¢ EAGLE & SHIELD IMPERF ERROR PLATE BLOCK

This 1975 definitive should have been perforated 11.2, but when that step in production was missed, the result was a major imperforate error (#1596a). This plate block of 12 imperforate error stamps is in very fine condition.

24¢ GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT USED

This stamp (Scott #153) goes all the way back to 1870, just four years after "Old Fuss and Feathers" died. General Winfield Scott is widely regarded as one of the ablest commanders of his time and was nominated for President by the Whig Party in 1852. This lightly hinged 24¢ purple stamp is in fine to very fine used condition.

1904 LOUISIANA PURCHASE MINT SET

This is a beautiful set of the five Louisiana Purchase commemoratives (#323-27) issued for the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. The colors on this set are fresh and vibrant and the engravings are crisp and very clean. The stamps are lightly hinged with some small hinge remnants.

FDR INAUGURATION COVER

Inauguration Day was not always January 20. In 1933, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated for the first time, it was March 4th. This cover has a rubber stamp cachet that details the landslide in both the popular and electoral votes for FDR. Canceled on Inauguration Day, March 4, 1933.

PREXY HIGH VALUE BLOCK FIRST DAYS

This is a set FDCs of the three highest values in the Presidential Series of 1938; $1.00 Woodrow Wilson (#832); $2.00 Warren G. Harding (#833); and $5.00 CalvinCoolidge (#834). The set features matching cachets and block of four frankings for all three covers. Very faint remnants of erased pencil addresses can be seen and the Wilson cover has minor dents and some toning on the seams from the gum.
